UniHear LLC ("UniHear," "we," "us," or "our") provides real-time audio translation, captions, transcripts, summaries, and related event services through our websites, mobile applications, and services (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy applies when you create, host, join, or review an event or otherwise interact with the Services.
1. Information we collect
Account information
We collect identifiers and profile information such as your name, email address, account ID, profile image, authentication status, and account creation date. Our authentication provider may also process sign-in credentials and social-login information.
Event and attendance information
When an event is created or joined, we process information such as the event title, event type, host, source and target languages, schedule, event status, join time, selected language, and attendance history.
Audio, transcripts, and summaries
During a live event, the host's microphone audio is transmitted to our real-time communication and AI translation providers so translated audio and captions can be delivered. UniHear does not intentionally save raw event audio in its application database. Service providers may process or temporarily retain data according to their agreements with us and their applicable service terms.
UniHear saves transcript segments in the languages used during an event. We may use those transcripts to create AI-generated summaries. Transcripts and summaries can contain personal, sensitive, confidential, or copyrighted information spoken during an event.
Billing information
We process credit balances, purchases, event charges, transaction identifiers, amounts, and purchase history. Payment card and app-store payment details are handled by our payment providers. UniHear does not receive complete payment card numbers. For web purchases, Paddle collects your name, email address, billing address, and payment details as merchant of record and processes them as an independent controller under the Paddle privacy policy. UniHear receives the transaction identifier, the amount, and your account email.
Device, log, and communication information
We may collect IP address, browser or device type, operating system, request identifiers, timestamps, error information, and similar security and diagnostic data. If you contact us, we process the information contained in your message.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- create accounts, authenticate users, and maintain account security;
- create events and deliver live audio, translations, captions, transcripts, and summaries;
- record attendance and show event history to authorized users;
- calculate usage, provide credits, process purchases, and prevent duplicate charges;
- send service messages, including scheduled-event reminders;
- operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Services;
- enforce our Terms and comply with legal obligations; and
- protect users, UniHear, and the public from fraud, abuse, and security threats.
3. Legal bases for processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process information as necessary to perform our contract with you, pursue legitimate interests such as providing and securing the Services, comply with legal obligations, and obtain consent where consent is required. You may withdraw consent at any time, but withdrawal does not affect processing already completed lawfully.
4. Event organizers and speakers
An event organizer decides what is spoken, who is invited, which languages are offered, and whether an event should continue to be available afterward. Depending on the context and local law, the organizer may be responsible for providing notices, obtaining permissions or consent, and responding to people whose information appears in event content. UniHear processes event content to provide the organizer's requested Services.
5. How we disclose information
We may disclose information to:
- service providers supporting authentication, cloud hosting, databases, real-time audio, AI translation and summarization, payments, app-store purchases, and transactional email;
- event hosts and authorized participants, according to the event features they use;
- professional advisers and transaction parties during a financing, merger, sale, or reorganization;
- authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law or protect rights and safety; and
- another party when you direct us or provide consent.
Our current service-provider categories include Clerk for authentication, LiveKit for live communications, Google Gemini for AI processing, Paddle (merchant of record for web purchases) and RevenueCat for payments and purchase fulfillment, and Resend for transactional email. Providers and processing locations may change as the Services develop.
We do not sell personal information for money. We do not use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of children under 16.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
UniHear and its authentication provider use cookies, tokens, local storage, and similar technologies that are necessary to sign users in, maintain sessions, remember preferences, prevent fraud, and operate the Services. We will update this policy and provide any required choices before introducing non-essential advertising or analytics technologies.
7. Retention and deletion
We retain account information while an account remains active and retain event information, transcripts, summaries, attendance records, and credit history while needed to provide event history and the Services. You can ask us to delete an event or account by emailing support@unihear.app. After verifying the request, we delete associated information from the active database unless we need to keep limited records for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or financial reporting.
When you request account deletion, we delete or de-identify information that we no longer need, subject to legal obligations and legitimate exceptions. Residual copies may remain in encrypted backups until those backups cycle out. Retention periods may vary by data category, sensitivity, event settings, contractual requirements, and applicable law.
8. International data transfers
UniHear is operated from the United States and uses providers that may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on recognized transfer methods and contractual safeguards. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from the laws where you live.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and for promptly notifying us of suspected unauthorized access.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a copy of personal information, object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or appeal a decision about a request. You may also have the right to complain to a local privacy regulator. We may need to verify your identity and may deny or limit a request where permitted by law.
To exercise a privacy right, email support@unihear.app. Authorized agents may submit requests where local law permits. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
11. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can investigate and delete it. Users under the age of legal majority where they live must use the Services only with authorization from a parent, guardian, school, or other responsible organization as permitted by applicable law.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services or applicable requirements change. We will post the updated policy and revise the date above. We will provide additional notice when required by law.
